Making the hardest week of someone’s life feel survivable at first click.
Family law is the rare service where the website’s emotional job outranks its commercial one. People arrive frightened. Most firms greet them with a gavel and a list of credentials.
Where it started
The brief
On Point handles separation, parenting arrangements and property division. Their clients aren’t shopping for fun; they’re usually in the middle of the worst thing that has happened to them.
The standard professional-services website is exactly wrong for that moment. Cold navy, institutional type, credentials first. It signals competence and completely fails to signal care.
What we did
Four decisions that made the difference.
Reassurance before credentials
The first thing a visitor meets is a clear statement of what the firm does and a promise of calm, strategic handling. Memberships and admissions come later.
Written for a phone at night
Short paragraphs, ordinary words, no subordinate clauses. Someone in distress cannot parse legal register.
Made the first step small
“Book a consultation” is a far easier click than “engage a lawyer”. One obvious action, repeated.
Dignity in the art direction
Considered navy and gold, real photography, generous space. Serious without being severe.
Where it landed
The result
On Point now has a site that does the emotional work before the commercial work, which, in family law, is the commercial work. Enquiries come from people who already feel they’ve been listened to once.
In family law, doing the emotional work first is the commercial work.
